The Mauritius Marathon, organized by Endurance Ltd, was held on 15 July 2012, one of the major events that sports lovers look forward to. The track chosen runs along the beautiful coastal road, St Felix-Tamarin and was 42,195 kms long.
Many of the participants were above 20. Departure was scheduled for 6.30 a.m.at Black River and competitors took 6 hours to achieve their objective all the while discovering breathtaking sceneries.
A semi-marathon of Mauritius, 21.1 kms long was also organised from La Prairie passing through Baie du Cape and heading towards St. Felix, within a restricted time of 4 hours. The race which started around 7 a.m was a combination of sporting challenge and the discovery of the natural and cultural heritage of Mauritius.

Fauja Singh, the 101 year old Marathon runner said he was running to bring a smile to the faces of the children of SOS Villages of Mauritius.
Fauja Singh ran his first marathon at the age of 89 for the cause of premature children. And today, at the age of 101, he decided to run his last marathon to support the SOS Children's Villages of Mauritius. The British athlete and also holder of several world records in athletics ran the 10 kms marathon easily.

The first three winners of the Marathon (42km) are Marco Schwab, Harris Khelawon and Thomas Wanske. For the 10 kms marathon, the three winners are Joachim Lederer, Marie Perrier and Hugues Rivet while Alexandre Xavier Julian Verny won the semi-marathon of 31 kms followed by Colin Crabbie and Didier Lamarque.
