During his mission in New Delhi, Hon. Michael Sik Yuen, Minister of Tourism & Leisure met with his counterpart in India, Shri Subodh Kant Sahai, Cabinet Minister of Tourism of India. During their meeting they discussed aspects of cooperation to enhance the tourism ties between the two countries.
They deliberated on joint cooperation MOU to share and exchange the expertise on Tourism between both countries. Further, both the Ministers expressed their keenness on having triangular destination promotions involving India, Mauritius & South Africa.

They also felt that there should be familiarization trips to further understand and enhance cultural ties between the both countries.
Hon. Minister Michael Sik Yuen on his visit to Delhi also received a very warm welcome from media and prominent travel trade personalities.

His Mission to enhance Mauritius footprint in the Indian market was well received by the key stakeholders. During his visit he scaled new grounds, his interaction with the media, was to enhance the destination visibility through highlighting destination Mauritius for MICE as well as for wedding segments. He emphasised on creating incentive based policy to target Indian MICE as well as wedding segment. This vision is based upon his interaction during his first visit and keeping in sight the emerging MICE and wedding segments. As Indian market is now maturing and new segments are emerging.

Delhi travel trade also showed lot of interest in further enhancing the product offerings in India. It was felt that positioning Mauritius as a step above in island experience as compared to other islands would benefit the overall desire to visit and revisit Mauritius. Hon. Minister suggested familiarization trip for top Mauritius promoting Indian agents and to include Rodrigues in the programme, as one of the new offering, to enhance Mauritius product line.

The travel trade expressed the need to have tour operator partnership schemes with MTPA to encourage the travel trade to push destination as a viable business option.
During all meetings Air Mauritius was also present and their active participation was appreciated.

Hon. Minister vision’s of working together with all key stakeholders was also very well received by the Indian travel fraternity and they extended their cooperation and promised to work towards the common goal of enhancing Mauritius footprint in the Indian market.
