In 1844, while under British rule, Mauritius became the third country in the world to be introduced to the sport of golf. Our island boasts eight 18-hole and five 9-hole golf courses, each offering a unique golfing experience.
With its natural beauty, good climate and unique cultural blend, Mauritius is an island with so much to offer. Our destination constantly reinvents itself and proposes a wide range of experiences to visitors. Golf is one of them.
One of Mauritius’ key objectives is to position itself as the best golf destination in the Indian Ocean, year-on-year, and so become a major reference point for the global golf industry. In 2008, the island was awarded the title of Golf Destination of the Year – Africa, the Indian Ocean and the Gulf States – by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO). It is therefore well on the way to reaching its goal.
Here, the visiting golfer has the chance to practise his favourite sport in optimal conditions on spectacular golf courses, located on beautiful sites with the sea as a backdrop.
Some of the golf courses have been designed by prestigious players such as Bernhard Langer, Ernie Els and Rodney Wright.
Golfers who choose to visit Mauritius for their sporting holiday are set to enjoy much more than golf alone. They will experience, at first hand, the Mauritian people’s innate hospitality, friendliness and commitment to quality of service. They will have the opportunity to stay in excellent hotels, each offering a wide range of additional services, including wonderful spas and world-class cuisine.
They will also have the opportunity to visit the island’s lush and green interior, which provides a whole host of sports for those who fancy a day away from the course – including canyoning, mountain biking, horse-riding and zip-lining.
Mauritius is a safe and secure destination for the family, with no health hazards and good political stability. It is so beautiful that it is also recognised as one of the best destinations in the world to get married.
